Kyle Johnson
Partner, Risk Management Leader – Complex Risk
Kyle is a Partner and Risk Management Leader at Navacord, with over 15 years of experience in enterprise risk management, insurance strategy, and contractor risk governance across complex, asset-intensive organizations. He works with executive teams to align risk financing, contractual protections, and operational controls with broader business objectives, and supports boards and senior leadership by translating risk information into practical, decision-useful insights.
Prior to joining Navacord, Kyle spent more than a decade with Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railway, a publicly traded North American railway. In that role, he supported enterprise risk, insurance, and contractor risk management activities across Canada, the United States, and Mexico. His work focused on aligning governance, loss control, and risk transfer approaches within a highly regulated operating environment, as well as contributing to business continuity and emergency response planning. Earlier in his career, Kyle held risk-related roles within large Canadian energy organizations.
Kyle has experience supporting the negotiation of commercial agreements and the development of indemnification frameworks, insurance requirements, and contractual risk allocation structures aimed at managing financial and reputational exposures while maintaining operational flexibility. During his time at CPKC, he was involved in the integration activities related to the acquisition of Kansas City Southern Railway and was recognized with a CEO Award of Excellence in 2019.
He previously served as President of the American Association of Railroads Risk Management Association and as a Director with the Alberta RIMS Chapter. Kyle is a qualified Railcar Inspector and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Mount Royal University, along with Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) and Canadian Risk Manager (CRM) designations.
