Commercial Account Director – Port Hope

The Account Director is responsible for managing a team of 16 insurance brokers, maintaining market relationships, and managing the day-to-day operations of the business. The Account Director will be reporting to our Chief Operating Officer.

Career Scope:

 Office Management:

 Ensure that all employees are provided with the tools and equipment they need to be successful in their roles

  • Coordinate the set-up of office space for new hires who join the organization

Account Management:

 Responsible for managing a book of business consisting of large complex accounts

  • In collaboration with the Producer; discuss arising issues and create comprehensive plans for existing clients
  • Review the accuracy of policy documents prior to client delivery and manage all account documentation (i.e., routine inquires, quotes, binders, statement of values, finance contracts, insurance contracts, endorsements, cancellations, etc.)
  • Prepare proposals for prospect and stewardship reviews for existing clients

Market Relationships:

 Educate our staff on new products offered by various markets

  • Assist your team with finding the correct markets for hard-to-place risks
  • Meet with market contacts regularly to ensure that relationships are well-maintained
  • Escalate business accounts where necessary

Leadership:

  •  Act in coordination with the COO to generate the mission and goals of the business unit
  • Prepare business correspondence, agendas, and presentations, typically using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Run regular reports through the EPIC client management system on the Books of Business that your team supports
  • Supervise, train, develop and conduct performance evaluations of all direct reports
  • Maintain a compensation budget, and administering salary increases
  • Coordinate with Human Resources to ensure that all new hires are provided with on-the-job training, as well as, training on the EPIC system
  • Coordinate staff meetings on an as needed basis to address any concerns, and ensure that performance expectations are met
  • Coach and develop staff to ensure they are meeting the mission and goals of the business unit in addition to their personal goals and objectives
  • Coordinate training and development opportunities for the Port Hope Office, which may include approving Education Request Forms, and organizing on-site training sessions
  • Address all employee concerns, and promote a positive, collaborative work environment that exemplifies our four core values: outperformance, passion for our customers, innovation and respect

 What We Value:           

  • Ability to lead and use sound judgement when assessing client risk and providing client advice
  • Knowledge of P&C Insurance, D&O Liability, Loss Control, Offshore Captives, & Surety Bonds
  • Strong understanding of risk management principles and experience with financial institutions and their lending processes
  • Insurance compliance background including, but not limited to, coverage discrepancies, industry standards and government regulations

You Must Have:

  • 10+ years as a Senior Commercial Manager handling complex insurance risks
  • 8+ years in a management role
  • Registered Insurance Broker of Ontario (RIBO) license
  • Certified Risk Management (CRM) designation
  • Strong ability to lead, make decisions and effectively handle client inquiries of complex nature
  • Extensive knowledge of various types of commercial property insurance policies
  • Advanced understanding of policy wordings and coverages
  • Advanced skills in MS Office Suite and EPIC software
